The Town encompasses the entire northern and northeastern section of Mount Desert Island. Its land is comprised of 114 square miles; the 3rd largest island in the continental United States, which, ironically, is shaped very much like a lobster claw!
The Town is a suburban-urban coastal community with highly developed shore areas. It is comprised of the Villages of Bar Harbor, Salisbury Cove, Hulls Cove and Town Hill with total land area embracing 44 square miles & approximately 34 miles.
The population of Bar Harbor rises from its 5000 census to a summer seasonal peak of over 15,000 residents. The neighboring Acadia National Park hosts just under 3 million visitors each year; many of whom visit the Town’s fantastic restaurants.
